A Letter to My Ancestors
Last night I had the opportunity to review my paternal ancestry. It was so surreal to see photos of people I never knew in the physical but have gotten to know in spirit. To be able to look back at records that show transactions of my people. I came across the name of the tribe in which my bloodline has its origins. So many documents. So much history built and then forgotten. It really gave me perspective on the life I live now.
My great grandfather was one of the people who helped build the Nassau historic records in The Bahamas in the 90’s. One of the first times stories has been compiled and saved for history books for the area. Gathering birth certificates, marriage documents, diplomas, and so much more to be placed in history. To read about their struggles and frustrations. To see a line of being done wrong and still finding ways to make their life meaningful. This is for you.
Hello,
As I read your stories, and cherish each of your individualities, I honor the line that it took to get me here. I sit outside with nature with birds perched on fences and can’t help but wonder what your life was like. The sights you saw. Which feels funny to ask because energetically I know.
I feel your pain, I read these stories and I witness the destruction that wrong doings took on each of your lives as your stories were not the only things passed down through generations. I know you see the work I am doing and working aimlessly to clear and transmute the centuries of pain. I not only feel it for me, but I feel it for you. I know there were healers in my entire line. Not only on the here and now, but every angle of my being. I sing to you. I sing to you with endless love as I am so grateful to have each of you guiding me.
I have seen your faces but never known your names. I have praised your graces and felt your shame. This is about more than honoring, but celebrating. Celebrating your lives, your truths, and validating your experience. I see you, all of you. I see you because I see myself and my reflection is an accumulation of a line of beautiful human experiences.
I keep these thoughts with me as I move through my day. I am grateful to know you.
